JUNE 2001

CAR PARK

Hi guys! A long awaited newsletter - So much has happened where do we start?

A bit of a party at Suzie’s place in April. I believe it was a night to remember - Dave! Kim Vestergaard is looking very much like a gorilla from photos we’ve seen. Ann informs us he’s having a brilliant time traveling. From the state of the lads when we all went to town for Rob’s birthday I think we should open our own club brewery!

LAST SEASON – THIS SEASON

We did have a good last season but as you are aware some bits of the club are getting juggled around this coming season. We will be having a selection committee, plus newly picked captains which will be selected nearer October time. Also Hazel and Ann will be the match secretaries sorting out fixtures. Chris will still be main man running club night and collecting money etc. Any questions or if your not wanting to play in the team next year please tell Chris.

50 CLUB WINNERS - MAY 2000 / APRIL 2001

  • MAY - Becky & Andrew (Ann & Jason) / Richard & Trudy / Ann V
  • JUNE - Pete / Julie T / Rob
  • JULY - Paul Butler / Julie T / Caroline
  • AUGUST - Hazel / Rob / Club
  • SEPTEMBER - Linda / Wendy / Caroline
  • OCTOBER - Jon Shepperd / John Stallon / Rob
  • NOVEMBER - Sue S / Victoria Fear / Pete S
  • DECEMBER - Rob / Rob / Rob
  • JANUARY - Sam E / Darren L / David S
  • FEBRUARY - Rob / Club / Sarah R
  • MARCH - Wendy / Pete F / Hazel
  • APRIL - Gran Andrews / Club / Suzy

One problem we do have with the start of this 50 club is that we don’t even have 30 entries. The idea of this fund raising scheme was to get family and friends to chip in £12 so eventually it helps the club keep their costs the same. Also the incentive to our friends was that they might win. At present a lot of club members have brought a number which basically means we should have just added £12 to the winter clubs fees……which wasn’t the idea. If we can’t raise 30 then everyone will have to have their money back. Don’t say you didn’t win as the list above proves a lot of you did! £12 cheque made payable to ‘Top Flight’ please. When we get 30 entries the draw will start but prize money will obviously be a little less - cut off is 1st July.

CENTRE PARCS – MAY

Top Flight visit to Center Parcs, 11th - 14th May 2001

Where were you JP???!!

On 11th May 2001 an intrepid team of 21 set off for the deepest, darkest corner of Longleat Forest. Sad to say that DB and JP were not up to the challenge and had to stay at home…

It was a brilliant weekend and the weather was fab. Highlights were:

  • Jo and Sarah - enthusiastically made full use of the (poolside) facilities – great tans!
  • Alan & Jon – madmen in the rapids
  • Rob, Chris, Pete, Barry and Dave – strutting their stuff and trying to impress the 13 year olds at the ‘nightclub’
  • Ann, Jason & Linda – crazy golf has never been so serious
  • Adrian & Family – enjoying the freedom (and the babysitting facilities)
  • Dave & Suzy – finding that the steam shower reaches parts that other showers do not (or was that Dave?!)
  • Julia – competing with Timmy for the biggest bruise
  • Jenny and Des - managed to get up the hill faster on foot than the cyclists could
  • Hazel - unable face the early Sunday morning Yoga

This year we had a huge BBQ on Saturday night (and yes – this time the grids from the chalet were left intact! If you don’t know the story – ask Alan…) and everyone went out for a meal together on Sunday.

Pictures and movie clips can be seen on the Top Flight website at: http://topflight.badminton.hants.org.uk or on the notice board at the sports hall.

Feel like you missed out? Why not come on the next club trip – a long weekend away in Ypres, Belgium in November (30th). See below for more details.

Thanks to Pete for organizing it. Also to Ann and Jason for taking photos and the fab report above.

END OF SEASON CLUB MEAL - JUNE

A good turn out from club members. Thank you Kevin for organising it. If you would like to arrange the Christmas event please let Chris know. Lets try and do something different this year rather than a meal! Any ideas?

CONGRATULATIONS - JUNE

To Ann for winning the ladies doubles event in the IBM Nationals. A spy told me that Ann played brilliantly and deserved to win the tournament.

Also congratulations to Hazel, Jason and Ann for finishing the London to Brighton bike ride! They are definitely mad! I think Jon will agree with that as he’s seen the practice runs!

NIGHT OUT AT JONGLEURS - AUGUST

A few of us are going to Jongleurs at Gunwharf (Portsmouth) on Friday August 3rd. Doors open at 7:30 but show starts at 8:30.
